Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Military Legal Advisors to contribute to a project focused on evaluating legal boundaries within defense, military policy, and international law. In this role, you will apply your legal expertise to assess AI-generated responses, review complex legal scenarios, and help improve the accuracy and reliability of next-generation AI systems. Prior experience in AI is not required; relevant legal and military expertise is the primary requirement.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop detailed scenarios examining lawful policy review, military support activities, and applicable legal constraints.
  2. Assess and validate legal boundaries within established evaluation taxonomies, ensuring the accurate application of the Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) and international law.
  3. Evaluate AI-generated responses for legal reasoning, clarity, appropriate limitations, and the handling of legal uncertainty.
  4. Identify instances where models unnecessarily refuse to address legitimate legal, policy, or analytical questions.
  5. Provide clear, well-supported written and verbal feedback based on authoritative legal analysis.
  6. Collaborate with other subject-matter experts to review complex or disputed cases and establish consistent evaluation standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer or substantial expertise in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and the Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC).
  2. Strong understanding of Rules of Engagement (ROE) and the legal boundaries governing military and surveillance operations.
  3. Experience advising on operational legal matters in military or governmental environments.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and accurately.
  5. Demonstrated expertise in policy review, legal case differentiation, and evaluating uncertainty in legal interpretation.
  6. Teaching, consulting, or advisory experience in military law or international law.
  7. Familiarity with AI governance, AI ethics, or legal frameworks related to artificial intelligence is an advantage.
