Law Review Cite-Checker - Remote
Job Description:
Job Description: Law Review Cite-Checker
Role Type: Contractor
Location: Remote
Opportunity Snapshot
Required Experience: Current or recent law school enrollment, hands-on Bluebook citation experience, and law review or law journal editing experience.
Key Responsibilities: Review citation-checking rubrics, identify gaps in citation guidelines, and develop sample cite-checking tasks.
Job Summary
We are seeking detail-oriented law students and recent law graduates with law review or law journal experience to support a legal citation project. Candidates with hands-on cite-checking experience will apply their knowledge of The Bluebook to evaluate citation guidelines, identify potential inconsistencies, and create realistic citation-checking exercises.
No prior AI experience is required. Strong Bluebook knowledge, analytical thinking, and sound editorial judgment are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Review existing Bluebook and pinpoint citation (pincite) grading rubrics to identify unclear, incomplete, or inconsistently applied rules.
- Identify citation edge cases not addressed by existing guidelines and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Create sample cite-checking tasks using source materials and citations containing realistic errors, along with corrected citations and explanations of the applicable rules.
- Develop tasks across various citation types and difficulty levels, from basic formatting errors to complex pincite and source-support issues.
- Apply Bluebook citation rules consistently and accurately across all submissions.
- Escalate ambiguous citation issues to project coordinators rather than making undocumented assumptions.
- Complete assigned tasks within established deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current law student, preferably in the second or third year (2L or 3L), or a recent Juris Doctor (JD) graduate.
- Prior law review or law journal experience, particularly in cite-checking or source collection.
- Strong working knowledge of The Bluebook, including pincites, short forms, citation signals, and parentheticals.
- Ability to identify citation errors, provide accurate corrections, and explain the reasoning behind each correction.
- Excellent attention to detail and consistency when reviewing extensive legal materials.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines without close supervision.
- Experience as a journal editor, articles editor, or executive editor is an advantage.
Selection Process
- Application: Submit your application and complete the screening questions.
- AI Interview: Complete the interview to demonstrate your skills and expertise to the client.
- Profile Review: The hiring team will evaluate your profile and qualifications.
- Onboarding: The Talent Operations team will assist you with the onboarding process.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate has practical law review or law journal cite-checking experience, a strong command of Bluebook citation rules, and the ability to assess citations critically. They can explain citation corrections clearly, recognize ambiguous cases, and develop accurate, well-structured citation-checking exercises.
