Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Humanitarian Aid Representatives to contribute their expertise in humanitarian operations, civilian protection, and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) to an AI training and evaluation project. In this role, you will help evaluate and refine AI-generated responses involving civilian harm, protected persons, and humanitarian constraints. Your expertise will support the development of AI systems that demonstrate sound reasoning, contextual awareness, and sensitivity to complex humanitarian issues. Prior experience in AI is not required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop detailed, realistic scenarios focused on civilian protection, proportionality, and humanitarian principles for AI model evaluation.
  2. Assess and grade AI-generated responses for factual accuracy, depth of reasoning, and appropriate consideration of civilian harm.
  3. Identify and flag instances of excessive caution or insufficient restraint in model responses, highlighting their potential humanitarian implications.
  4. Document complex or ambiguous cases from a humanitarian perspective to support future AI training and refinement.
  5. Collaborate with project stakeholders to clarify humanitarian concepts and contribute to guidance on International Humanitarian Law-related reasoning.
  6. Maintain accurate, clear, and context-rich documentation of findings, assessments, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in humanitarian operations, civilian protection, or humanitarian policy with organizations such as the ICRC, Red Cross, UN agencies, or major NGOs.
  2. Strong knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and civilian-protection principles.
  3. Experience in teaching, training, or field leadership related to humanitarian action or IHL dissemination.
  4. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, particularly in developing and reviewing complex case materials.
  5. Demonstrated ability to apply proportionality reasoning to conflict-related and civilian-protection scenarios.
  6. Experience documenting, assessing, or reporting on complex cases and challenging humanitarian situations.
  7. Experience working in conflict zones, participating in protection clusters, or supporting IHL dissemination is highly valued.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate combines practical humanitarian experience with a strong understanding of civilian protection, humanitarian principles, and International Humanitarian Law. They can evaluate sensitive scenarios objectively, recognize complex humanitarian considerations, and communicate nuanced judgments clearly. Their insights will help improve AI systems' ability to respond responsibly and accurately to humanitarian concerns.
