Job Description:

Job Description: Bluebook Citation Specialist (Law Students & Recent JDs)

Role Type: Contractor
Location: Remote

Job Overview

We are seeking current law students and recent Juris Doctor (JD) graduates with law review or law journal experience to support a legal citation project. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Bluebook citation checking, strong editorial judgment, and the ability to identify citation errors and explain the rules behind corrections.

No prior AI experience is required. Your legal research skills, Bluebook expertise, and attention to detail are what matter most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review existing Bluebook and pinpoint citation (pincite) grading rubrics to identify unclear, incomplete, or inconsistently applied rules.
  • Identify edge cases not covered by existing guidelines and recommend appropriate approaches for handling them.
  • Create sample cite-checking tasks by pairing source materials with citations containing realistic errors, along with corrected citations and explanations of the applicable rules.
  • Develop tasks covering a variety of citation types and difficulty levels, from basic formatting errors to complex pincite and source-support issues.
  • Apply Bluebook citation rules consistently and accurately across all assigned work.
  • Escalate ambiguous citation cases to project coordinators rather than making assumptions without clarification.
  • Complete assigned tasks within deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current law student, preferably in the second or third year (2L or 3L), or a recent JD graduate.
  • Experience working with a law review or law journal, particularly in cite-checking or source collection.
  • Strong working knowledge of The Bluebook, including pincites, short forms, citation signals, and parentheticals.
  • Ability to identify citation errors, provide accurate corrections, and clearly explain the reasoning behind them.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistency when reviewing complex legal materials.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Experience as a journal editor, articles editor, or executive editor is an advantage.

Selection Process

  1. Application: Submit your application and complete the screening questions.
  2. AI Interview: Complete the interview to demonstrate your skills and expertise to the client.
  3. Profile Review: The hiring team will review your profile and qualifications.
  4. Onboarding: The Talent Operations team will guide you through the onboarding process.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has practical law review or law journal cite-checking experience, a strong command of Bluebook citation rules, and the ability to evaluate citations critically. They can explain corrections clearly, recognize ambiguous cases, and develop accurate, well-structured citation-checking exercises.
